If you need an electric piano but are looking for something more than the usual Rhodes or Whurlitzer clone, then Clavia Lab is the instrument for you.

This is a hybrid analog/physical model using experimental techniques to create the complex changing harmonic content of an electric piano.
  • source, amplifier and modulation sections give you plenty of control over tone and play dynamics
  • precise control over all parameters - knobs have around 120 steps..
  • VU meter indicates when tone is likely to distort (distortion is actually very pleasant in most cases).
  • 8 presets plus room for 8 more.
  • lots of potential for experimentation.

Super unique and odd-sounding synth/e-piano, sounds kind of like a toy. Nonetheless incredibly charming, you learn to fall in love with it. Has a lot of unusual presets such as E Zee Piano or Knackered. Used it a lot for dubstep and jazz about 10 years ago.

I use this synth a lot, but as much as I love the Celestia-like rhode sounds I do a lot of fighting with the synth to avoid distortion, over-compression and under-compression. The knobs move by moving your mouse in circles instead of simply up-or-down. I still keep it around because Clavia Lab is great to get a variety of gentle sounds quickly in ways that can't be easily replicated with most additive synths.

I thought it sounded great in the Demo, but ... WOW! It sounds even better in my current project!! Love the VU Meter. It's fun, and adds a touch of vintage classiness. Wonderful, wonderful plugin!
